Major Assignment 4
When selling a product it is important to advertise and keep your costumers up to date with the latest business dealings. Your customers will love to know what is happening and what discounts and deals your business has going on. The up-to-date information will make them more likely to buy the product and tell their friends about what the business has to offer them. A form of advertisement that does this is sending out newsletters and emails with the latest about your company. I have decided to create an email list and send out my website link for the customers to be able to see what the company has to offer.
The biggest reason why I decided to do an email list instead of a Facebook post is because of my audience. I researched who uses Facebook vs. who uses email lists. There were quite a bit of older people who used Facebook, but an overwhelming amount used email over Facebook. Older people will check email every day, while very few will check facebook on a daily basis, if at all. I know my audience will be mainly older people, so I wished to cater to them and how they use the web, instead of making them come to the company
I also wanted something that was easily interactive and a part of web 2.0. An email list is not broadcast type advertising. An email from an email list does not usually end up being responded to, but if the subscribers want to they will be able to respond to the emails. I also want to eventually develop these emails into newsletters with clickable links and opportunities for people to submit their recipes or tricks and tips for cooking. This will make the web 2.0 aspect of this even stronger.
Like stated before, email is not a type of broadcast advertising. I chose to not do a broadcast type advertisement, because it has become outdated in the world of technology. Stimulation is a good way to grab a person’s attention and broadcasting makes it hard to grab the user’ attention and keep it. I want to be able to create a newsletter in the future that has a lot of stimulation activities in it, so the subscribers will wish to keep reading them and keep going to our website.
I want the newsletter to be interactive, because interactivity in newsletters has proven to increase the number of subscribers. I want to be able to use the concept of content marketing to help with this. I will only send out a newsletter every once and while. This will lead to the subscribers wanting to read the newsletter. I think my website will fit well into the idea of content marketing. It fits well, because it is something that is relevant to the subscribers and it is something that they can interact with as well.
There are other business reasons why an email works the best. If a post is made to Facebook, then a user can just pass by it, but emailis static. The subscriber has to do something with the email, even if it is just to delete it. If the subscriber does nothing then the email will stay there until they do something with it. Email is also something people check on a daily basis. It has become a main form of business communication in the last decade and is continuing to be a great importance in most people’s lives. A newsletter can also be created in such a way that it is hard to ignore and interesting to look at when put into an email
Overall an idea of an email list is the best way to distribute my website and future information to the costumers. It is the most widely used web 2.0 medium used by the audience I am looking to capture. I am also hoping to be able to interact more with the costumers and help them in which ever ways I can when the email list starts to gain more steam. The idea of using Facebook for these functions was an idea that popped into my head, but after doing research it seemed much more beneficial to create an email list and advertise that way. An email has been proven to be much more long lasting than a Facebook post and can be referenced easier than a post buried amongst piles of status updates.
